How Past Trauma Gets Stored in Chakras: Understanding and Healing Your Energy

Beloved seeker,

Know this: the pains of your past are not merely memories. They are subtle currents of energy, woven into the very fabric of your being. When we experience fear, loss, betrayal, or grief, the impressions (saṃskāras) do not vanish. Instead, they settle in the chakras, silently influencing your mind, body, and spirit.

To heal, one must first understand where the wound resides, for it is only when we shine the light of awareness that the darkness dissolves.

Invocation for Healing

Before beginning your inner journey, recite:

ॐ सह नाववतु। सह नौ भुनक्तु। सह वीर्यं करवावहै।
तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै। ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः॥

Om saha nāvavatu…
“May we be protected together, nourished together, empowered together; may our practices enlighten us, and may there be peace in body, mind, and spirit.”

This sets the sacred space for your chakra healing.

The Nature of Trauma in Energy

Trauma (āghāta) is not only a mental phenomenon. It is stagnant energy, trapped in the channels (nāḍīs) of your subtle body. When blocked, it manifests as fear, confusion, or emotional pain. The body remembers; the mind processes slowly; the chakras hold the key to liberation.

Where Trauma Resides in the Chakras

1. Mūlādhāra – Root Chakra (Red) – LAM (लं)

  • Trauma: Childhood insecurity, abandonment, fear of survival.

  • Signs: Anxiety, restlessness, feeling ungrounded.

  • Healing: Sit firmly on the earth, breathe into your root, chant LAM, and feel the red lotus blossom.

  • Shloka for Grounding:

ॐ भूम्यै नमः

Saluting Mother Earth, this mantra stabilises and roots your energy.

2. Svādhiṣṭhāna – Sacral Chakra (Orange) – VAM (वं)

  • Trauma: Sexual betrayal, guilt, shame, blocked creativity.

  • Signs: Difficulty enjoying life, fear of intimacy.

  • Healing: Hands on lower abdomen, visualise orange light, chant VAM, allowing joy to flow.

3. Maṇipūra – Solar Plexus (Yellow) – RAM (रं)

  • Trauma: Powerlessness, criticism, self-doubt.

  • Signs: Low self-esteem, indecision.

  • Healing: Focus on navel, breathe golden light, chant RAM, igniting personal fire.

4. Anāhata – Heart Chakra (Green) – YAM (यं)

  • Trauma: Heartbreak, grief, emotional neglect.

  • Signs: Difficulty trusting, fear of love.

  • Healing: Hands at heart, visualise green lotus, chant YAM, letting love flow.

  • Shloka for Love & Compassion:

ॐ ह्रीं श्रीं क्लीं ऐं नमः

This bija sequence opens the heart and releases emotional blockages.

5. Viśuddhi – Throat Chakra (Blue) – HAM (हं)

  • Trauma: Childhood silencing, suppressed expression.

  • Signs: Fear of speaking, difficulty expressing emotions.

  • Healing: Tilt chin slightly, visualise blue light, hum HAM, letting the voice of truth rise.

6. Ājñā – Third Eye Chakra (Indigo) – OM / AUM (ॐ)

  • Trauma: Gaslighting, invalidated intuition, confusion.

  • Signs: Indecision, mental fog.

  • Healing: Close eyes, focus on space between brows, chant OM, awakening insight.

7. Sahasrāra – Crown Chakra (Violet/White) – Silence

  • Trauma: Spiritual disconnection, existential emptiness.

  • Signs: Feeling lost, disconnected from divine guidance.

  • Healing: Sit in stillness, visualise violet or white light above. After OM, rest in silence.

  • Shloka for Spiritual Awakening:

ॐ असतो मा सद्गमय। तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय। मृत्योर्मा अमृतं गमय॥

“Lead me from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, from death to immortality.”

The Path of Healing

The wounds lodged in the chakras are not erased by force, but by patient awareness and loving attention (sneha). Healing unfolds naturally through:

  • Movement and Breath: Yoga and prāṇāyāma release what is held in muscles and joints.

  • Emotional Cleansing: Journaling, crying, or expressing suppressed emotions allows energy to flow.

  • Mental Stillness: Meditation and mantra chanting soothe the restless mind.

  • Spiritual Awakening: Harmonised chakras open channels for intuition, guidance, and inner peace (ānanda).

A Daily Practice for Harmonising Trauma

  1. Sit quietly and scan the chakras from root to crown.

  2. Visualise each chakra glowing in its colour.

  3. Intone its bīja mantra or recite the shloka associated.

  4. Breathe slowly, imagining energy flowing freely.

With devotion and patience, the heaviness of the past dissolves. Fear softens. Anger loses its grip. A deep serenity, born of alignment, emerges.

✨ Remember, beloved seeker: trauma is not your enemy. It is energy energy-seeking expression, release, and transformation. Treat it with gentleness, breathe with intention, and allow the lotus of your chakras to open, petal by sacred petal.
